The footwell gap is closed.
The front panel hangs from the front headrests and covers the gap. It is soft fabric, not a floor, so clip the tether to their harness and the seat belt buckle.
"She tries to get out the second I open the door."

Both side flaps zip up, so there is fabric where the open door would be. It marks the edge of their space and keeps paws off the trim. It is not a restraint. A dog that means to get out can push past it, which is the other reason to clip the tether.

Hair comes off it. Not by shaking.
The quilting holds hair, and that is true of this cover as much as any other. A vacuum or a lint roller lifts it in a couple of minutes. Mud and crumbs wipe off with a damp cloth.

Lay it in. Zip it up.
The straps adjust once to your car and stay set. After that it goes in and comes out in about a minute.

Spread it over the back seat, hook the four straps onto the front and back headrests, then push the seat anchors down into the crease. Pull the straps until it sits flat.
Zip it up
Once the dog is in, raise each side flap and zip it to the body. Clip the tether to their harness. Taking it out is the same in reverse.

Questions people ask
Is it waterproof?
No, it is water resistant. It protects your seats from mud, rain and a knocked over water bowl, and you wipe it off. The seat belt openings are cut through the panel, so a large spill can reach the seat through them.
Will it fit my car?
Most sedans and mid size SUVs, yes. It is 53.9 by 57.9 in and the straps adjust to the headrests. It is too small for a full size crew cab pickup.
What is the mesh window for?
Seeing you, and air. Eye contact settles a dog on a long drive, and airflow from the front vents reaches them when they are lying down. It is the thinnest panel, so it will tear if a dog chews or claws at it hard.
How long does it last?
A season or two of regular use, not years. It is for dogs up to medium sized, and lasts longest with them harnessed, clipped to the tether and sat down. The Oxford face resists claws, the mesh does not, so a chewer will tear it. Machine washable, though rinsing makes it last longer.
How do I get the hair off?
Vacuum it or use a lint roller. The quilting holds hair and shaking it out does not work. Mud and crumbs come off with a damp cloth. You can machine wash the whole cover, though rinsing it makes it last longer.
